About TIES 2008 Ecotourism Gala & Auction
Held annually by TIES, the Ecotourism Gala & Auction is a premier social event in the Washington area that showcases many of the finest ecotourism holiday destinations and companies from around the world.
Ecotourism Auction:
- Live and silent ecotourism auction showcasing exclusive worldwide collection of sustainable travel experiences. View our auction trips here!
- The auction trips and items are generously donated by TIES members and partners from around the world.
- All the proceeds from this event will support TIES’ initiatives benefiting communities, conservation and sustainable travel.
Keynote Speaker:
Keynote presentation by Alexandra Cousteau, Co-Founder of EarthEcho International. Granddaughter of legendary explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Ms. Cousteau is an inspirational social environmental advocate dedicated to promoting conservation and protecting a healthy planet. Alexandra co-founded EarthEcho International with her brother Philippe in 2000. The non-profit organization is devoted to inspiring concern and commitment for the environment in today’s youth. EarthEcho uses dynamic and interactive media platforms combined with compelling storytelling to empower people to take individual action for more sustainable lifestyles. Cultural Performance:
- Grammy-nominated Swedish fiddler, Andrea Hoag, along with fellow fiddle players Göran Olsson and Sonja Benson, will perform live traditional Swedish music. Andrea is one of the foremost performers of traditional Swedish music, and is a highly respected fiddler in several American, English, and Celtic styles.
- Accompanying the trio of fiddler players, Scandinavian folk dancers, Linda Brooks and Ross Schipper, representing Scandia D.C., will perform traditional Scandinavian folk dances.
