TIES Announces Annual Fundraising Gala and Ecotourism Auction

Eco-conscious travelers, adventure enthusiasts, and green-minded professionals in the greater Washington DC area will have another opportunity this year to take part in a one-of-a-kind evening event filled with the best of the best ecotourism experiences from around the world. TIES’ annual fundraising event, Ecotourism Gala and Auction, will be held at the beautiful House of Sweden in Georgetown, on May 1, 2008.

This spring, the Embassy of Sweden, our generous host for this evening event, is showcasing wonderful destinations in Sweden as part of its four-month long Discover Sweden initiative featuring a variety of Swedish cultural treasures and culinary treats. The participants of the Gala will sample the colorful traditions, unique sounds, sights and sceneries of Sweden, as well as the exquisite architecture of House of Sweden, winner of Sweden’s most prestigious architecture award.

“We are excited to be a part of this event,” says Swedish Ambassador Jonas Hafström, “Sweden has a lot to offer visitors and Ecotourism goes hand in hand with Sweden’s efforts in the environmental field.”

TIES is also proud to partner with the Swedish Ecotourism Society, TIES long-time Association member. The Society, in partnership with the Embassy, will bring ecotourism experts and Sami representatives to the Gala celebration, and contribute auction items from Sweden.

“The annual Ecotourism Gala and Auction is our signature event,” says Kelly Bricker, TIES Executive Director. “Since 2004, this special event has provided many of our friends and supporters with a unique opportunity to celebrate ecotourism and make contributions to TIES, while having a great time.”

Showcasing many of the world’s finest companies and destinations, TIES Ecotourism Gala and Auction is a premier opportunity to learn about the latest ecotourism best practice examples from across the globe, and to network with a wide range of like-minded fellow travelers, as well as to show your support for the important work TIES is doing in helping make the world a better-and more sustainable-place, one eco-trip at a time.

The event features silent and live auctions of eco-holiday packages donated by TIES members from around the world, who are leaders in sustainability practices and authentic ecotourism experiences. Those interested in making a tax deductible donation of an eco-holiday package, or getting involved in the event in other ways, should contact TIES at: events@ecotourism.org or +1 202 347 9203×422.
