Reindeer Sled Excursion in Sweden

2 day/1 night with Nutti Sami Siida

About the Trip

Dive deep into Sami culture during this 2 day, 1 night excursion with Nutti Saami Siida. Listen to the reindeer herder’s tales about his everyday life, feed the reindeer, try and catch a strong male reindeer with a lasso and test drive your own reindeer drawn sled in a winter-white Lapland, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. This is a genuine and different experience where you really feel the connection between man, animal and nature. The tour takes place in Sapmi, the land of the Sami people, the indigenous people of this area. You will get to know the Sami culture, the reindeer and encounter the wilderness and the snow clad winter forest.

On Day 1, your Sami guide will meet you at your hotel in Kiruna and trafer you with minibus to Jukkasjarvi village. You are porvided with warm thermo overalls, shoes and hats before you go out to the Reindeer camp in Sautosjohka. Here you will have your first encounter with the reindeer. The guides will have an instruction in how to dive reindeer with sled. Each person will drive their own reindeer sled. You follow the guides on a track out to the forest ad make a stop along the way to eat lunch, prepared over the open fire. In the late afternoon you will reach the wilderness cabin out in the frest. Here you can relax, have a sauna and in the evening have a nice dinner. Accomodation this night will be in a wilnderness cabin in sleeping bags

On Day 2, after breakfast, you feed the reindeer and prepare them with the harnesses and make the sleds ready for take off. You leave the wilderness cabin and head back with reindeer and sled along the track in the forest. You make a stop for lunch prepared out in the wild. The Sami guide will tell us more about the Sami culture and the Sami people’s customs and traditions. After lunch, the journey with the reindeer goes back to Sautosjohka camp where we bid our reindeer farewell.
