About the Trip

DAY 1 Arrival Stockholm Arlanda airport. Self drive in rental car to Svartådalen, 2 hours. Bird watching with BirdsafariSweden. Accommodation at Bed & Breakfast.

DAY 2 Self drive to Kolarbyn, 1 hour. Lunch at own expense along the way. Beaver and Moose watching with guides from Naturarvskompaniet and Kolarbyn. Wilderness sauna. Accommodation in rustic forest hut in Kolarbyn Eco-lodge.

DAY 3-4 Self drive to Sikfors, 1,5 hours. Full board and accommodation at Sikfors, 2 nights. Optional excursions in the area.

DAY 5 Self drive to Stockholm, 3 hours. Day at leisure in Stockholm.

Included: 4 nights accommodation, full board except for lunch day 2, rental car picked up and returned at airport.

About BirdsafariSweden

During the last few years Svartådalen – The Black River Valley – in Västmanland, central Sweden, has developed as a new birding destination with international interest. A network of bird guides and ringers, each having stakeouts for their special birds, have developed their skills in showing birds to people. A network of feeding stations and hides bring the birds close to the observer. Our activities are specially designed for birdwatchers and bird photographers. Butterflies, mammals, flowers, silence, clean air and beautiful nature provide an extra bonus alongside the birds. About Kolarbyn Eco-lodge

Kolarbyn is called Sweden´s most primitive hotel. It is a natural refuge for silence, wilderness and adventure in a beautiful forest setting just a couple of hours away from the capital Stockholm. Guests from all over the world come to relax and enjoy the nature or join us for a wildlife safari and meet with wild animals in their natural enviroment.

Kolarbyn consists of twelve little forest huts located in a glade by the beautiful lake Skärsjön. Many guests choose to come here for lodging in one of the huts, just like a normal hotel, just more primitive and much more adventurous! There is no electricity but live candles and a crackling fire place that will guide you asleep. After a silent night you slowly wake up to bird´s song and a fresh swim in the lake. Kolarbyn is undoubtely a true nature experience for both family and friends.

About Nordic Discovery

High hills and deep valleys surround a long stretch of lakes and offer stunning views. Steep cliffs descend dramatic into the lakes along narrow stretches. The Nature Reserve Malingsbo-Kloten in northern Västmanland is one of the biggest Nature Reserves in Sweden. The reserve is located high and the wilderness has by history been kept in peace from an aggressive civilization. Due to this fortune the nature is intact and the wildlife rich. Here we have a lot of moose, deer and beaver but also lynx, wolf, bear are to be found (the animals are shy and not dangerous). The beautiful and untouched nature is classified as central Europe’s closest wilderness. 2,5 hours journey (200 km) by car or train from the Swedish capital Stockholm. Here we have an amount of good canoe, bicycle and hiking trails. The reserve is very well looked after and you will find plenty of rest areas with shelters and firm fireplaces.

About Sikfors Herrgård

Sikfors Herrgård is a respectfully restored farm manor house from 1849, where good food and pleasant accommodation play a central role. The manor house, the bar iron storehouse, the guesthouse, the sheep pen, the riding stables and the wash-house with its wood-fired sauna have all been restored to recreate a classic farm manor environment from the 1850s. Hunting trophies, period furniture and a magnificent open fireplace are some of the details which combine to create a supremely cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is environmentally certified and to a large extent local ingredients are used. Lamb is raised on the farm and the area’s game and fine fish make every meal a feast. The atmosphere is only enhanced by a wonderful Silence, which is all around.
